Route 66 Revisited

Way back in 1991 at the wedding of a college buddy I was introduced to LambdaMOO, a text-based virtual reality system. The MOO was a freewheeling environment with characters like Spatula, Obvious, Autumn, Sick, Skeptical, and Eclipse. There was a hot tub, an I Ching garden, a nightclub, an architectural review board, and a sophisticated programming system for building rooms, vehicles, communication systems, and activities. I'm bringing this freewheeling architecture back with Scoby Social.

This is what I thought the Internet would be like...

When I first got involved in the internet -- way back in 1991, I thought it would turn out very differently. I thought it would be this amazing space for discovery, connection, and experiences. Instead, it's become more like a strip mall with a vape shop, fast food joint and vast parking lot. We're bringing back the old weird internet in a very new way.

Scarcity and Urgency in the Creator Economy

A few days ago, Dr. Desktop pulled upĀ our long steep driveway in a white van with bright red warning stripes like an ambulance or paramedic with Emergency Computer Services painted boldly on the back and an EEG cardiogram spike on the side. This got me thinking about scarcity and urgency, domains and niches, and the economics of scale.
